Checkout Policy
Because of the block schedule, the day of the week that a student has library may change depending on holidays, weather, etc. There are due date bookmarks at the checkout desk for students to take as a reminder when their book is due.
At times throughout the year, older students are asked to check out books for graded research. In this case, students may check out up to three extra books above their grade’s limit.
We do not charge fines for overdue books, but we do withhold check out privileges from students who have 30 day+ overdue materials. Students are allowed to borrow from the Lending Library which is on the honor system. This instills responsibility in our students and respect for others’ rights to use materials in a timely manner, while providing the student with something to read.
Overdue notices are sent home on most Fridays. After 30 days overdue, library staff will talk to the student. If the book is 60 days overdue, the librarian will try to call home.
If the book is lost or returned damaged, it must be replaced. Payment can be made in the form of cash or check made out to Ashland Elementary. Alternatively, if you would like to replace the book, it must be replaced with with a book with the same ISBN as the one lost. Please make sure to look everywhere before paying or replacing the book as there are no refunds.
We do not charge for lost magazines.
If a student returns an audiobook with missing components, they will still be allowed to check out books, but not audiobooks until the missing components are returned.
The library is divided into two sections, Fiction and Nonfiction, and subdivided further.
