Hello students and parents. What a crazy week it's been! I miss all of you and hope you are hanging in there. I've been watching a lot of Disney +, reading, taking outdoor hikes and working on puzzles over the last few days. I've added some links students can access to pass the time educationally. Use Clever- students log in to the PWCS office 365 using their username and passwords.  
They can access "CLEVER" under all apps.  Once logged into CLEVER, they can read on MYON, practice math on DreamBox, and access many other educational sites.

1st Grade:
Here is a list of the Standards of Learning for first grade. The highlighted standards and objectives are ones that we did not get to cover before school closed. As of right now, there will be no instruction on new material (highlighted standards/objectives) and all optional learning opportunities will be review of previously taught standards.

Math: Geometry Unit
- Figures: Lines, Line Segments, Rays, Angles, Points
- Polygons: triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon, decagon
- Combining and subdividing polygons
- Congruent and non-congruent polygons
- Geometric Patterns

5th Grade Math:
Unit 1: Problem Solving with Addition and Subtraction (includes perimeter) (August 26-September 6)
Standards of Learning:  5.4 and 5.8a

Focus: Create and solve single-step and multi-step practical problems involving addition and subtraction of whole numbers

Unit 2: Problem Solving with Multiplication and Division (includes area) (September 9-October 2)
Standards of Learning: 5.4 and 5.8a

Focus: Create and Solve single-step and multi-step practical problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (with and without remainders) of whole numbers. 

Unit 3: Measurement (October 3-October 25)
Standards of Learning: 5.8a, 5.9a, 5.11

Focus: Solve practical problems that involve perimeter, area, and volume in standard units of measure. Determine area of a right triangle. Determine volume of a rectangular prism.

Unit 4: Fraction and Decimal Number Sense (October 28-December 6)
Standards of Learning: 5.2a, 5.1, 5.2b

Focus: Represent and identify equivalencies among fractions and decimals, with and without models

Unit 5: Data Analysis and Statistics (December 9-December 20)
Standards of Learning: 5.16a, 5.16b, 5.16c, 5.17a, 5.17b, 5.17c, 5.17d

Focus: Given a practical problem, represent data in line plots and stem-and-leaf plots. Describe mean, median, mode and range (spread)

Unit 6: Computation and Problem solving with Fractions (January 6-February 4)
Standards of Learning: 5.6a, 5.6b

Focus: Solve single-step and multi-step practical problems involving addition and subtraction with fractions and mixed numbers. Solve single-step practical problems involving multiplication of a whole number, limited to 12 or less

Unit 7: Computation and Problem solving with Decimals (February 5-February 25)
Standards of Learning: 5.5a, 5.5b

Focus: Estimate and determine product and quotient of two numbers involving decimals. Divisors are limited to a single digit whole number or decimal

Unit 8: Patterns, Functions, and Algebra (February 26-March 20)
Standards of Learning: 5.3a, 5.3b, 5.7, 5.18, 5.19a, 5.19b, 5.19c, 5.19d

Focus: Identify and describe characteristics of prime and composite numbers. Identify and describe characteristics of even and odd numbers. Identify, describe, create and extend number patterns. Investigate the concept of a variable.

Focus: Identify and describe the diameter, radius, chord and circumference of a circle. Classify and measure right, acute, obtuse and straight angles. Classify triangles as right, acute or obtuse and equilateral, scalene or isosceles. Recognize and apply transformations, such as translation, reflection and rotation. Investigate and describe the results of combining and subdividing polygons.

Unit 10: Probability (April 20-May 1)
Standards of Learning: 5.15

Focus: Predict and determine the probability of an outcome occurring by creating a sample space. Determine probability of an outcome using the Fundamental Counting Principle.

5th Grade Language Arts
